My name is Alyssa
I am 18 years old
I have blue eyes and reddish brown hair
I am funny, honest, and loud
I love to laugh, have fun and have no limits
You only get one chance at life so make it good
I am very close to my family and love each and every one of them
Without them I would be lost and my life would not be nearly as exciting
I love to life and making people laugh
I hate cold weather and the snow and rain that comes with it
I hate the smell of a bad car, for it could be mine
I hate when people are disrespectful and think that they are funny for doing it
I love to hang out with my friends and laugh at the stupid things we do
I hope to have a fulfilling life with no regrets but make many mistakes
I believe that in some cases people in your life can chose your future
I know that several people want to do good things but I also know that actions speak louder than words
I don’t understand why people are the way they are
I don’t understand why people get so far in life but do so little
I don’t really have heroes or role models in my life just people that I go to for advice
I am the person that I want to be so there is no need to look up to or want to be someone else.
I could not live without my mom, sister or my best friends, for they are the ones keeping my going
I am constantly spending money but at the same time managing it well
I spend money on the things that will make me happy for that day and not things that I need in order to get through the week.
If I were rich I would simply buy all the things I need and give money to the people that need it more
I wish life was simpler and that gas was free
I wish people would think before they talk,
I do off the wall things and often people think I am weird for do it
I seem quiet and shy but in all honesty when you get to know me I’m completely opposite
I am unsure what I am going to study but my mind is open to a lot
I like to be clean but at the same time dirt doesn’t bother me
I am simple and go with the flow but can be complicated
I say things that often do not make sense and get confused easily.
I love camping and long car rides
I love to listen to my music loud and sing in the shower
I hate strong smells and fruity smells
I like the fact that I don’t know what is going to happen the next day or even that night
I am a very organized person and need lists to simplify things
I love bon fires and playing hide and seek in the woods, in the dark
I am a fun outgoing person but know my consequences
I am a responsible person
I enjoy life and try to live it to the fullest

Introduction to TCT Seminars
My Three Cups of Tea book was one of the only books that I was able to really follow because we had the weekly seminars. For this piece I chose to compare my first seminar to my last seminar showing the growths and changes I have made throughout. In my first seminar I would pick simple quotes and explain what I though they meant, but in my fifth seminar I was more prepared with the vocabulary and the quotes I chose were more meaningful.
Comparison in Seminars
Words: serendipity- gift, finding good things accidently
Expats
Menacingly- one who is threaten
Bivocated-
Gingerly- very careful
Quotes:
“Mortenson couldn’t ever imagine discharging the dept he felt to his hosts in Korphe.” Pg 30
Mortenson says this right after he learns that Twaha, one of his hosts has had a horrible past. This is when Mortenson begins to give things away in order to help others. He gives his jacket away, along with Nalgene bottles, flashlights, and a camping stove. Although these things help, his medical kit was most valuable. He began helping people with broken bones and giving them antibiotics to get better and soon after people even on the outskirts were sending for “Dr. Greg”.
“There was much more meaningful gestures he could make in honor of his sister.” Pg 33
With this quote it is basically saying that he could do better and that leaving the necklace on the mountain was not meant to be. When Mortenson does not make it up the mountain first he was mad at himself because he was not able to leave his sisters necklace, but then he realizes that the K2 was beside the point and there was much more he could do for her. He realizes this when he is in Korphe and there are no schools for the children, and they cannot afford teacher just for their town.
“He patted the big burgundy hood, pocketed the money, and carried his duffle bag toward the taxi waiting to take him to the next chapter of his life.” Pg 56
Mortenson has finally gotten the money he needs. The money came specifically from a man Dr. Jean Hoerni and little things that Mortenson had sold. After writing 580 letters and several of them getting rejected he finally got the money and was heading the Pakistan. Mortenson was beginning the new chapter in his life, which was him building this school.
VS.
Vocabulary: Rollicking- to play or behave in a lively way, care free
Enfeebled- to make feeble
Feeble- weak, without force or effectiveness
Askew- to one side
Quotes: “On Sunday, April 6, with American ground forces massing on the outskirts of Baghdad, fighting their way into position for the final assault on Saddam Hussein’s capital, 34 million copies of a magazine with Mortenson’s picture on the cover and the headline declaring ‘He Fights Terror With Books’ saturated the nation’s newspapers. Never had Mortenson reached so many people at a critical time” (Mortenson 301).
Finally Greg was being noticed all over the country and people were donating. Because on such donations that Greg got he was able to further his mission and give more to the people and build more schools. Mortenson had gotten several letters from people everywhere and finally got his business up and going.
“…Tara Bishop’s calm endurance is every bit heroic as the risks her husband takes over seas… Tara not only allows it, but supports it, because she believes so strongly in Greg’s mission. If that’s not heroism I don’t know what is” (Christiane Letinger 304).
It was nice to see that Tara was also being seen and complicated. I am sure that it would be impossible for Greg to do his missions if his wife did not support him. I could imagine that Tara lives in the background of Greg’s accomplishments and it is good to hear that she too is noticed.
